Balwyn Melbourne - alfresco design skylights

Get your customised solutions from one of the leading Alfresco Builders in Melbourne

This Balwyn residential Alfresco extension was carefully designed to seamlessly match the existing residence. It took deft and skilful planning, to ensure the new living area gave the impression that it had been built at the same time as the main building – and this is something that Custom Outdoor Living, in Melbourne, excel at.

What was once a paved, open-air space, fully-exposed to the elements, is now an inviting outdoor area that allows natural light to flow through the living room windows, with protection from sun and rain, with a perfectly aligned extended Alfresco roofline.

Custom Outdoor Living, one of Melbourne’s leading Alfresco builders, provided the client with a consultation to establish the brief, onsite, after which their Design and Sales Consultant, Mr. Brad Volling, crafted a virtual depiction of what the intended design would actually look like. Brad explained, “By taking the time to look carefully at the options, the constraints, the important aesthetic considerations and colour scheme, we can give our clients both drawings of an architectural nature, and a realistic representation on a computer screen. The technology we use allows the client to actually see what the clever designs we come up with will truly look like. There is no guess work. When our clients accept our designs and proceed with the construction of their fabulous new Alfresco in Melbourne, there are no surprises or hidden costs either.”

Two expansive skylights now illuminate the paved floor space that is easily accessible from the adjoining glass sliding doors. The owners can now move freely from the kitchen and living room to their outdoor dining area, complete with a built-in BBQ rangehood. Energy-efficient LED lighting was also installed (to enhance the new area’s capacity to be utilised day and night), with the added privacy of a roof spanning 8.4 x 4.2 metres, restricting the uninvited view of the two storey residence next door. Warmth was also injected into the atmospheric design with a solid plaster ceiling, rendered square columns, colour-matched painting, and complementary guttering.

“We offer a full service, from the initial consultation to the design, then the build, to all of our clients,” says Matt Goodie, Custom Outdoor Living’s Managing Director. “This particular Alfresco project, in Balwyn, presented us with an unusual situation whereby the site was issued with a ‘P’ Classification in the Soil Report, and there was limited access to the construction area as well. Ever-ready and willing to find solutions for our clients, we were able to address this issue, even though it meant that the actual footings had to be excavated by hand.”
